6 I had a boss who constantly used the phrase "Lesson learned." I grew especially accustomed to hearing this when I made a mistake. Continually learning from the things that go right and those that go way wrong is a healthy way to look at both life and nails. Not being a licensed nail technician, I had no idea what kind of schooling students underwent to get their license when I first started covering the nail industry. I've come to find out that once many obtain their license, they choose to continue their education. Whether it's learning new nail art skills, improving upon a technique, or mastering a new product, the lesson I've learned about nail professionals is that they are hungry for knowledge. I recently had the opportunity to stop by Jeweled Nails salon and academy in Lake Forest, Calif., to observe a nail art class. The energy of the students and their instructor was overwhelmingly positive. We should all be so excited when presented with the chance to learn more. As someone who values education (I very nearly became a credentialed teacher before working as an editor), I am happy to always be learning, even when the lesson comes at my expense. One of the benefits of reading this magazine is that there are tutorials and videos linked to several of the nail art looks so you can learn how they are made. I hope you take something away from every issue, whether you're a nail professional or not. notes i l Martini nails by Sherri Traweek of MN8 Salon in Lake Forest, Calif.
